The Planet | Our Philosophy
We see how apparent it is that the climate crisis is disrupting national economies and is affecting lives around the globe, especially the most vulnerable. From sourcing raw materials and working closely with our partners to discover new or better methods, we are passionate about designing garments that will last as long as possible and actively reducing our global carbon footprint wherever we can. Working with clean materials makes it safer for our artisans and the women who wear our designs. It is our responsibility to help build climate resilience and to protect ecosystems around the world, especially in the places where our products are made. We realize being a fashion brand our impact will never be flawless but we are intentionally looking at the best ways possible to create our globally inspired, ethically handmade designs. Cleobella is devoted to transparency and holding our team accountable in the responsibility we have to the planet. Tracking our progress helps us to see where we are and to see the areas that need more attention. We want to share our efforts with you so we can set new conscious goals as we grow. Here are some of the ways we’re committed to sustainable processes:
Responsible materials:
-Cleobella works with ethically sourced, certified organic, and natural fibers
-Our trims are YKK OEKO-TEX ® STANDARD 100 certified, and the labels sewn inside our garments are also OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified. Learn more about our other Certifications.
-We use shell or corozo buttons, which are natural closures.
Reduced Overproduction:
-Our wholesale business is cut to order, eliminating as much overproduction as possible.
-Upcycling leftover fabric and leather to be used into accessories and jewelry bags doing our best to leave no scrap behind!
Conscious Dyes:
-We are committed to only using non-toxic, natural, water based. Our dyes are certified BLUESIGN. Learn more about our Certifications.
Recycled Packaging:
-Our shipping bags are made from 100% recycled plastic. They are 100% recyclable so that they can be reused and made into something new.
-Our hang tags, packaging, tissue, and tape are made from recycled paper.
Giveback to the Planet:
-Planting trees globally through 1 tree planted and through our partnership with Noissue packaging.
-Recycling at our HQ, warehouse, and boutique.
Short Term Goals:
- Offset scope 1, 2, & 3 emissions annually
- Start recycling program for warehouse & office
- Complete B Corp assessment
- All larger factories WRAP or Sedex certified
- All materials certified
- Organize our clean up projects for end of 2021 and for 2022
- Invest in renewable energy/water conservation projects for 2022
Long Term Goals:
- Become B Corp certified
- Become Carbon Neutral ongoing for Scope 1, 2, & 3
- Incorporate Plant based or vegan leather options in each collection
- Bring Some Projects closer to home and to neighboring regions to reduce emissions from shipping
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and improve the lives of everyone, everywhere. The Cleobella team has committed to those which we feel we can drive progress towards. This is our pledge to use the framework set out by the United Nations to help shift our world to a better planet for all.
UN SDG 13 Climate Action is a call to the urgency of combating climate change and its global impacts. By raising awareness, cleaning up our supply chains, and making these commitments we can generate a small but powerful difference. These conversations are crucial to sustaining lasting change. We want to be on the right side of history, and holding ourselves accountable is how we can be. By advocating for goal 13 Climate Action, we can make a promise to be active in the collective goal to save our planet.
Our giveback for the planet: One Tree Planted
One Tree Planted projects are helping to rebuild biodiversity in our most impacted regions. Through photosynthesis, trees convert carbon dioxide into the oxygen we breathe. These projects through One Tree Planted are also creating jobs and providing sustainable, long term income for communities so people and nature can live in harmony together. It is our responsibility as a brand to do our part by offsetting our carbon emissions wherever we can. By planting trees, we can create healthier habitats and help to eliminate greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. We have chosen One Tree Planted because we have the opportunity to offset emissions in specific regions where we contribute the most impact.
