What it Means to be an Ethical Fashion Brand
What it Means to be an Ethical Fashion Brand
Cleobella remains grounded through our globally inspired, ethically handmade mantra. Our morals and ethics have been at the core of all we do from the very beginning. To be truly ethical means to live by the Golden Rule: treat all things the way you want to be treated. As cliche as it may sound, the golden rule has been taught in all religions and teachings for over 3,500 years. Ultimately, it is how all things on this earth should be treated. From our team here in California to our artisans and makers abroad, we hold the same standards for all of our team members. We treat our team with respect and kindness, and expect the same treatment from them to one another. Being environmentally responsible is also a part of our morals and ethics as a brand. We know the Fashion Industry is harmful to the environment, we want to be a part of the solution for change. Before all else, being conscious of Mother Earth and all creations is how we do business.
Ethical practices are crucial to Cleobella because they are the foundation of everything we are as a brand. Without the prosperity of our makers we would not be the brand we are today. It is through these beautiful relationships, we have made with our artisans, that we have been able to flourish and grow in all the right ways together. Their expertise and mastery are displayed through each and every one of our products. All of our products are handmade with intricate details that help to remind us of the love that was put into each item. We believe that what goes around comes around and that you receive what you give. We encourage our customers to be aware of who made their clothes and to know that each purchase truly has an impact on the makers of who produce it. By consciously choosing to shop ethically made products, you can feel good knowing you are making a positive impact on real human lives.
Our efforts are our roadmap to a more sustainable world of fashion and help us to point out the areas we need to work on. We realize how imperative it is to share those efforts with you so we can have conversations that contribute to positive change and a better world for everyone. All of our factories are required to sign and uphold Cleobella’s Ethical Trading Agreement, ensuring fair wages, safe and hygienic work environments, and zero tolerance for child labor. Our Ethical Trade Agreement goes into detail of what we require as a brand and the terms of which we expect our teams to operate by. We personally visit our factories abroad yearly and are in constant contact with our makers when we are home, in California. We also offer a new feature on our website that allows you to donate a portion of the proceeds from your purchase to go towards a nonprofit organization we are partnering with. Cleobella has selected four organizations that align best with us as a brand and where we want to contribute a positive impact. Click here to learn more about our Givebacks.
It is important to talk about how ethics plays a role not only socially, but in the environment as well. We are a brand that centers on the importance of prosperity of the people and the planet and know they are interchangeably linked to one another. Ethical fashion to Cleobella means prosperity for our workers and producing clean products. We have been making small environmentally responsible adjustments to our supply chain all along. We strongly believe in the necessity for clean products and know it is crucial for our artisans safety to produce with clean materials. Through tests and failures we have learned as a fashion brand we will never be flawless but, we strongly believe in the collective effort to do our very best in all ways possible. From using all natural fibers, to switching all our packaging to be made from recycled materials that are also recyclable, and exclusively using nontoxic dyes we are staying true to our mantra. Each collection we learn and improve in more ways than the previous to implement better strategies for Cleobella to be socially responsible and conscious of Mother Earth. Through these adjustments we can have meaningful conversations with you about our contributions, where we are, and the direction we are heading to help inspire the fashion industry to be more sustainable for everyone.
Our world is connected in so many ways. It is time for the Fashion industry to be a source of empowerment for women rather than exploitative and harmful. When you purchase something new, keep the humans who made it and the planet in mind. Not only does it feel better wearing a piece that was made with integrity, and with clean materials, but it is truly contributing to a better world for all. Each time you vote with your dollar, you choose to contribute to the collective change to save the planet. Each purchase matters. It's time for the world to not only hope for ethically produced goods, but exclusively expect them.
