#BellaBeautyTribe Feature No. 10: Seewah Russo

What makes you beautiful?
This is a love story about the women we know and the women we want to know.
The go getters, the humble souls, the women who inspire us to be the best version of ourselves.
The true goddess who is centered in love and joy.
The women to whom you can relate, who find humor in their own flaws, and who tell it to you straight—when no one else will.
A celebration of beautiful women who shine bright from within.
They don't follow the pack, they lead the crowd.
Their beauty is contagious.
They lead with their heart and follow their dreams.
They balance so much, and they do it with grace and beauty.
They are the true definition of Bella.

Seewah and her husband Tim are the owners of Uluwatu Surf Villas, an idyllic boutique hotel on one of Bali’s best surf breaks.  The villas have played host to surfers, artists, yogis, and adventurers for many years.  With daily yoga classes, endless sets of perfect waves, and good company, the villas are easily one of our favorite places in Bali.  Seewah and Tim also own Drifter Surf Shop, which is a perfectly curated shop and café that celebrates creativity in the surf industry.

There’s something about Bali that attracts some incredible humans.  Some of the most inspiring conversations and soulful connections in my life have taken place on this magical island.  One of these is Seewah Russo; I met her in Bali a few years ago and was instantly drawn to her warm, vibrant energy.  If ever there was a Queen of Uluwatu...In my humble opinion...Seewah would be it :-)  She's one of those people that you meet and you instantly fall in love with.  A beauty inside and out, Seewah inspires me with the way she lives her life- with endless positivity, she treats her body with love (she's an incredible vegan cook) practices yoga, and is truly connected to her spirit and the energy of the island.  She's grounded, present, and full of love, and I'm always inspired by her ability to stay positive and grateful even in life's craziest moments.   Seewah is an inspiring woman full of life, creativity, and passion - she's a true Bella.

I’m from Vancouver Island, which is off Canada’s West coast. It’s beautiful over there with wild drift wood beaches and old growth temperate rainforest. I travelled to Bali after graduating from University and fell in love with a different kind of beauty that Bali had to offer.

Life in Bali is amazing. Our Balinese friends are so warm and welcoming and we also get to connect with other people with interesting stories from all over the world. And life is lived at a slower pace, so we can really appreciate what we are doing here.

Tim and I like to wake up early and relax in the mornings when the air is cool and the world seems quiet except for the ocean. I might do some yoga or Tim might go surfing. Then we get started on all the various projects we are working on. We wind down every evening together and watch the sun set over the ocean.

We took over management of the villas about 6 years ago. My husband swears it is the best place to stay if you are in Bali, his favorite wave is also right out front. And I agree, whether you’re a surfer or yogi and travelling solo or with friends or family, our spot on the cliff here is pretty breathtaking and the magic of this area Uluwatu is what kept drawing me back to Bali from the beginning. My dream was to live here one day. By next year we will have a second yoga studio ready and also a restaurant on the property with insane views serving up a fresh healthy menu.

I help out with the women’s side of Drifter Surf Shop. The concept behind Drifter was to create a space that represents the soul of surfing. We house boutique apparel and swim brands, collectable surfboards, artwork, memorabilia and a hand-selected library of books.

I love meeting all the amazing people over the years through Drifter or who have come and stayed with us at the villas. And these are projects we just love doing so it really doesn’t feel like work at all.

It’s been really easy to find my path to a holistic lifestyle in Bali. With all the healthy food, yoga practice and especially being by the ocean, it’s a very easy reminder to look up from the work I may be doing or any stress I may be feeling and take a moment to be present and to really be grateful for what we have here.

I’m not amazing chef but I love to cook and appreciate amazing food that is good for body mind & soul! I love making fresh, healthy food with all the local organic ingredients I can source in Bali, much of which comes from a farm in the mountains where the temperature and soil is better for growing. Also moringa, cacao, noni and coconuts are some powerful super foods available to us on the island. I also love making raw vegan desserts because the people around me love to eat them!

Travelling, adventure and experiencing different cultures really inspires me. Seeing how other people work and practice their daily lives opens my eyes and mind.

I’ve travelled through most of South East Asia. It’s a really colourful landscape rich in culture. I love the textiles from all the different regions and also the food! My most recent travels were to Sri Lanka and India. Both are incredible places with so much history. I learned a lot from the people and experience and came home with tons of textiles and spices.

I think the best travel tip for anyone when traveling to a foreign place is to keep an open mind. You will go home with a greater experience if you are open to receive it.
